So the song is on and I am attempting to sing along and announce to my boyfriend that I don't even know what they're saying in the rest of the chorus. He said he didn't know either. So I whipped out my phone and fired up google. I was fully expecting to find some nice english lyrics that made perfect sense. I did not find what I was expecting at all. Here is what I found instead:
Come on Eileen too-loo rye-aye
Come on Eileen too-loo rye-aye
Toora toora-too-loora
So yeah, that's pretty much what I always mumble when I sing it. I still have no idea what it means! I didn't manage to find something that said "toora loora" often means "goodbye for now". That kinda makes sense, I guess?
Also, I had no idea how dirty the song was.
Come on Eileen oh I swear (what he means)
Ah come on, let's take off everything
That pretty red dress Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, Ah come on Eileen
That pretty red dress, Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen
Please...

Tura Lura Lural - Tura Lura Li - Tura Lura Lural - That's An Irish Lullaby.
It's an old Irish song that has been covered by several artists - Van Morrison, Bing Crosby - and of course - referenced in C'mon Eileen :0)
Nice to meet you on the 31 Days blog forum for personal bloggers.
Hi Bumbles! Nice to meet you too. Thanks for stopping by and for the great information :)
I saw in one of your posts on the 31 days forum that you were having trouble finding a forum to join -- I really highly recommend you take a look at cmfads.com/forums. I have been a member for several months now and love it.
Wow! I did not realise that the lyrics are that "exotic". I usually do that same as you when that song comes on, its so funny.
Anyways, I found you on 31DBBB, so I sure we will be interact here and there. Good to have found you and I enjoy your blog lots.
Majimo.
Hello Majimo. I'm glad you came across my blog and that your enjoyed it. Good luck to you with the 31DBBB :)
See you around!
Get out of here! Like you, I've heard the song for ever and ever and not once did I stop to consider what the lyrics were about.
It is fun to make up your own lyrics, though, isn't it? Not feeling too creative right now and I can't remember the tune well enough to come up with something off the cuff.
Ha. I am glad I am not the only one! Was feeling kind of dumb for having no idea what the song was actually about.
Yeah, it's definitely fun coming up with your own lyrics. It's amusing even when you know what the real words are but just make up your own version. :)
