I mentioned a little bit ago that I was going to
start a vegetable garden this year. I wanted to post what exactly I ended up planting in the 5x5 area I fenced up and a few other spots. I tried to take a few pictures of the garden today, now that it is pretty much all set up, but I was not very successful at getting any good ones. I decided to share them anyway...
8 leaf lettuce6 broccoli6 cauliflower
2 green bell peppers and 1 red
carrots and zucchini
a bunch of green beans
As I said before, I am really just experimenting this year to see what works and what doesn't. One of my experiments is also doing some container gardening. My entire back yard gets a lot of shade so I thought it might be a good idea to try some plants in containers which I could easily move to sunny spots.
strawberry plant and tomato plant
broccoli (or cauliflower?), tomato, carrots
And finally, my one plant that seems to be bearing fruit already... Mr. Cherry Tomato, along with some
very wimpy looking broccoli (or cauliflower?) that I bought weeks ago, but just decided to throw in the ground today.
And there you have it. There are also a few other wimpy-looking tomato plants in the 5x5 area and a container with a few green bean plants which I didn't take pictures of. Now I am sure you will all be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the next update when I (hopefully) have some actual produce.
Wow it is really looking good. Soon you will be enjoying the fruits of your labors.
Majimo
I am so jealous! I have so wanted a garden for years now. Now all K and I have to do is buy a house so we will have the room to have one.
Looking amazing by the way!
Thanks Majimo and Danielle.
Majimo, I sure hope to be enjoying some nice veggies from the back yard soon :)
Danielle, I had no desire for a garden before the first spring in my house (last year) and then I suddenly became crazy gardening lady :) The first thing I do after work when I get home is take a tour of the yard and check on all the plants... ha.
Look at the little baby tomatoes in that last photo! =) Keep an eye on that zucchini. My Gramp used to check the plants every evening & pick any that started to look *too* big. Inevitably, he would come out the following morning & find one that he would call "a club" becacuse it was the size of a child's baseball bat! LOL! Those things grow like crazy all of a sudden!
I was so excited to see those little babies! There's actually 2 more little ones since I took the pic :) I go out there every day to check there progress and make sure the deer haven't gotten to them yet! Thanks for the heads up on the zucchini. I hope I'm able to get some big ones like your gramps!
Ah... one of these years I will stay home long enough in the summer to have a garden. Meanwhile, I'll have to enjoy yours and others. Those fresh veggies are callin' me though!
you should definitely try it when you have the opportunity. it's a lot of fun! i may not get much out of it in the end since this is my first year really trying, but it's an enjoyable experience nonetheless. :)
