What is Your Favorite Christmas Cookie Recipe?

My mother was never much of a baker.  And apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree because I am not much of one either.  My mom had one Christmas cookie recipe for sugar cookies that we made every year.  By "we" I mostly mean my oldest and youngest sisters.  My mom didn't really want to do it, and my sisters never really wanted my help.

So I am reaching out to you for help.  Please share your favorite christmas cookie recipes!  I'd love to make some cookies for people at the office and my boyfriend's family, but I don't really have any great recipes.  I did have some friends on facebook suggest Church Windows and Buckeyes yesterday (which I will probably attempt this weekend), but I wanted to see what other suggestions you guys had.  A sugar cookie recipe would be fantastic, but all types of holiday cookies would be more than welcome.  Also, pretty much the simpler the better because, as I said, I'm not much of a baker.  We need to start slow  :)

So what is your favorite Christmas cookie recipe?  Is there a story behind it?

I looooooooove Smitten Kitchen's salted oatmeal white chocolate cookies. I ate nearly half of the ones I gave to my parents last year.

My favorite Christmas cookies have to be the traditional sugar cookies with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Tablespoon.com has some great ideas for decorating cookies: http://www.tablespoon.com/recipe-collections/christmas-cookie-recipes/

Candice: I personally don't like cookies with oatmeal but I certainly know a lot of people who do. I will definitely keep these in mind since the pictures look absolutely scrumptious. Thank you for the link!

Karen Sams: Wow, so many cute and creative ideas. I can use all the help I can get in that department. Thanks for sharing!

Wish I would have seen this post earlier because I would have recommended this cookie, hands down!

Not sure if you ever use Allrecipes.com, but it's a fantastic recipe website with tons of reviews! You can also scale the recipes to the amount you want.

I started making this cookie a couple of years ago, and it receives more compliments than anything else I've ever made...oh, and they're easy to make!

Happy Baking
:)

Tabitha: Oh wow, those look and sound fantastic. Definitely something I would love. And like you said, they look pretty easy to make, which is a big bonus for me!
