The Upside of Winter

| 8 Comments | No TrackBacks

I am not a fan of winter in Upstate/Western NY.  I start to dread its arrival around mid-October.  And I start dreaming of Spring in mid-February.  I hate the dangerous driving, the shoveling, the dry skin, the big bulky clothing, the bitter cold.

This post isn't about that though.  It's about the upside.  For me, the only upside is how beautiful it can be.  I spent today working from home perfectly positioned to see the snow falling at a slow constant rate out the bay window in the front and out the sunroom in the back.  By 5pm, when I went out to take pictures, there was well over a foot.

Winter scenes... from my front and back yards...

Oh, I hate it too for all the reasons you specify. But the glory of it all! I took some photos on Friday because at the start of the latest storm the snow melted on the ground, but the trees caught and held very heavy and large snowflakes. It made the trees look almost like blossom trees. Strange and so beautiful.

Don't worry, spring is just around the corner!

You should post your pictures! I'd love to see them.

I really can't complain about the winter we've had this year, as this was our first significant storm, but I will still be happy to see the daffodils and tulips begin to spring up!

I am jealous that you have a bay window to watch the snow from. I absolutely love your winter photos in this post. And that green scarf is awesome.

I totally agree. I'm not a fan of winter either but it can be beautiful sometimes.

Glad you all liked the pictures :)

David, thanks for stopping by and commenting. So complementary! I have been getting a lot of wear out of the green scarf. I have made 2 hats so far and am working on my third. I see you are an expert in that area :) Your hats look great.

It is so pretty. I don't mind it, I guess. But dang it, how I HATE those high heating bills!

Crabby Blogging Lady, GREAT point! I hate how high the bills are during the winter months. Something I should not have left off my list.

The snow was definitely pretty this past storm. We got a foot and a half on February 26th and now, it's Spring. Sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s, flowers are peeking their heads up.
