White Oleander, The Glass Castle and The Bell Jar are some of my favorites. I'm a huge fan of Jodi Picoult, although My Sister's Keeper isn't my favorite of hers. I would definitely read Nineteen Minutes or The Pact if you haven't so already. They're really great. I've also read Angela's Ashes, which I really liked, and I'm hoping that I'll get around to reading the sequel. Wally Lamb has been on my list of authors to read for years, I've heard so many great things about his books. Some of my personal favorites have been The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, Atonement by Ian McEwan, Wasteland by Francesca Lia Block, The Reader by Bernhard Schlink, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, among others. I'm also a huge fan of the Dexter series by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as well chick-lit series like the Queen of Babble series by Meg Cabot and the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovitch.

Hi, Marie! I read both Wally Lamb books years and years ago and they are still really really high on my list of favorites. I couldn't put them down. We seem to like very similar things and I am sure you'd love his books. That is funny that you mentioned Nineteen Minutes as it is sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read next. :) I loved the movie Virgin Suicides but I've never read the book.

You have given me several ideas for what to add to my To Read list -- thank you!

East of Eden by John Steinbeck is my favorite book. Memoirs of a Geisha a very close second. I recommend both!

Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver. I have read it so many times and it's still my favourite of her books.
And then a couple of English authors who I couldn't imagine not having on my bookshelves:
Elizabeth Jane Howard - her books about the Cazalet Family. I so loved this series I wanted to somehow become a Cazalet !
A vintage author and book - Diary of a Provincal Lady. Funny and dry - and England as it only exists in Black and White films !
I also just reread Anna Quindelen - One True Thing - amazing.

Christina, I read East of Eden years ago. That is another good one. I have been tempted to read Memoirs of a Geisha but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Sally, thanks for all the suggestions! I haven't heard of most of them but will have to search them up and find out more about them. I have read One True Thing and really enjoyed it. The movie was good too!
