Things I Love: Music Edition

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

I was recently going through a bunch of my older cds and there is a lot of great music that I haven't listened to in quite a while but still really love.  I am not sure how popular these will be in the thirty-something crowd, since most people I know that are around my age have never heard of thes bands.  I am very curious for your feedback though, should you have any.  I am also very curious as to what you are listening to these days.

1.  Andrew McMahon.

Instead of saving the best for last I am going to jump in head first.  Andrew McMahon is one of my absolute favorite artists.  He has been ever since I was introduced to him back in 2003 or 2004.  He is the front-man for two bands called Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin.  I own all of his albums as well as his 2 dvds.  I don't know what it is, but this kid really speaks to me.  Although it is hard to choose, I think my favorite song is one called Konstantine.  The video clip below is a video of him and his band Something Corporate playing the song live.  I really think you should view it.  I will warn you that it is long, almost 9 minutes long, but it is totally worth it.

Something Corporate Albums:

Leaving Through the Window

North

Jack's Mannequin Albums:

Everything in Transit

The Glass Passenger

DVDs:

Something Corporate - Live at the Ventura Theater

Dear Jack -- A documentary about Andrew's fight with Leukemia.  I just received this for Christmas and have already watched it twice.

2.  Bright Eyes.

This is another band I was introduced to right around the same time as Something Corporate.

Here is a video of one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs, Bowl of Oranges.

The three Bright Eyes albums I own:

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground

Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

3.  Plain White T's.

Check out their myspace page to listen to a sampling of their songs.

Click the following link to see the video for my favorite song by them (youtube wouldn't let me embed): Hey there Delilah

The albums that I own:

4.  The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie.

I lump these two together because the lead singer for both is the same, Ben Gibbard.

My favorite Postal Service song is "Such Great Heights" from the album Give Up.  A favorite Death Cab song is "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" from the ablum Plans.

So if you actually had the time and desire to listen to any of the above, what did you think?  What are some of your favorite songs/artists/albums that you're listening to right now?

Snacks

  • Most mornings around 11:30 I start to get hungry. I almost always eat a macintosh apple to tide me over 'til lunch.
  • Carrots. I've recently started munching on little baby carrots as a snack. Forgot how tasty those things are!
  • Peanuts. I love to snack on a few of these in the afternoon.
  • Cottage cheese mixed with some slices of peach. I saw a friend at work do this a while back and I've been eating it ever since.
  • Popcorn.  Butter flavor, of course.

Beverages

  • [Diet] Coke. I like the taste of regular coke better, but I almost always drink diet.
  • Labatt Blue Light. If I am going to drink alcohol, this is almost always what I have.

Breakfasts

  • 1 cup Bran Flakes with 1% milk. I eat this almost every morning. Yup, I'm totally lame (if you didn't know that already).
  • French Toast.
  • Pancakes.
  • Omelets. I like omelets a lot, but they have to be cooked just right.

Lunches

  • Salad with chicken, tomatoes, croutons, parmesan cheese, and light balsamic vinaigrette
  • CafĂ© Steamers Chicken Basil
  • Half a sandwich with chicken, slice of american cheese, slice of tomato, and mustard.

Dinners

  • Chicken Parmesan. Original favorite meal to have out at a restaurant. Still love it.
  • Chicken French. After a while I began alternating between chicken parmesan and chicken French at restaurants.
  • Shrimp Scampi. There is not much better than a well-made shrimp scampi.
  • HONERABLE MENTION: Tuscan Garlic Chicken from Olive Garden that I had the other night.

Desserts

  • Chocolate chip ice cream
  • Strawberry-rhubarb pie. I made some awesome pies last summer with the rhubarb from my garden.
  • Marble cake with chocolate mousse filling from BJs. The first time I had this was at the pseudo baby shower the other day.

Candy

  • Twix
  • Dark chocolate m&ms
  • Starburts

Spices

  • Salt. I put this on almost everything - meat, vegetables, salad, etc.
  • Garlic

I found a fun little meme over at Dawn's blog and thought I would play along.

Here is how it works:
1.  Post a comment on this entry if you want to play along and I will assign you a letter.
2.  Make a post similar to this one listing ten things you love that begin with the letter you were assigned.
3.  Assign a letter to anyone who comments on your post and assign each of them a letter.
4.  Around and around she goes.

Dawn assigned me the letter M.  I would have though it would be a fairly easy letter to do, but I did struggle a bit to come up with 10 things.  My list, in no particular order, is:

1.  M&Ms.  Definitely one of my favorite candies.  I love the dark chocolate the best, but the milk chocolate are awesome too.  Right up there with Twix and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.

2.  Mail.  I love getting things in the mail.  Well, everything except for the bills and the junk mail.  Cards and packages are the best.  I love getting Emails from friends or from people visiting my blog.  I love sending things in the mail to other people too.

3.  Make-up.  It is really nice to be able to hide those dark circles, lengthen your eye-lashes, and even out your skin tone.  It only takes a couple of minutes and it makes a huge difference.  I use Prescriptives all skins mineral makeup powder/foundation and Prescriptives Here To Stay mascara.

4.  Malteses.  I'd really like to get a dog.  These guys may be a tad on the small side but they are so darn cute, hypoallergenic, and generally well behaved.

5.  Macintosh Apples.  I eat one of these almost daily.  You know, to keep the doctor away.

1.  Hot Chocolate

The other night after dinner a friend wanted to stop at Starbucks and get some coffee to keep himself awake.  I don't drink coffee, but I immediately had an intense craving for a cup of hot chocolate.  It tasted absolutely wonderful.  Really, is there anything better than coming in from the cold and having a nice steaming cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream or marshmallows?  I think not.

2.  Warm, Comfortable Footwear

I bought a really cute (in my opinion) pair of boots for $20 at Target the other day.  They are Ugg knock-offs and SO warm and comfortable.  So much better than wearing heels.

boots from target

3.  Fleece Jackets and Comfortable Sweatshirts

I could wear these every day of the week.  It feels like being engulfed in a big bear hug, isn't it?

4.  Fireplace Fires

There's not much else like the warmth and ambiance from a nice winter fire.

5.  Cuddling with Significant Other

I love to cuddle, and the cold winter temperatures gives me a great excuse to do so.

6.  Comfort Food/Crock Pot

Nice casserole in the oven.  Hot easy meal in the crock pot.  Very easy, tastes great, and extremely satisfying.  I love a good bowl of hot Chicken Noodle or Tomato Garden soup.  Mmmm.... lasagna.

7.  The Holidays

Spending time with family.  Seeing all the pretty lights and decorations while driving around at night.

8.  Lack of Yardwork

My weekends can be used for something other than weeding the garden, planting, digging, mowing the lawn, etc
.

9.  Heated Seats

The Boy just bought a new Acura this past summer.  My body does not deal well with really cold temperatures, but at least my butt is now kept warm while in his car :)

10.  EMS Wool Socks

My older sister introduced me to these last year.  I bought 4 pair to try them out and loved them.  They are expensive but, to me, they are worth the money.  They do an excellent job at keeping my feetsies warm.  :)
