One of the things I really wanted to do this fall was go apple picking. I actually really wanted to go last fall but never made it happen. This past Saturday was a perfect fall day so my boyfriend and I decided to meet up with a bunch of my family and head to the orchard. This was my first apple picking experience and it was fantastic. Definitely met my expectations. The apple pie I've been enjoying (the first I've ever made) all this past week has been fantastic as well. :)
I realize I messed up the crust a bit, and it's not that great to look at, but it really is delicious. I wish I could share a piece with you to prove it. :)
If you have a favorite apple recipe, please feel free to share. I have so many apples left still and the crisp I tried was a big failure.
Happy Fall!
That looks so good - bakery quality for sure! I'm going to try it out too :) I actually have a couple apple recipes I'll share with you, but just for a quick one I recommend apple chips - slice them up thin (preferably with a mandolin slicer) and then space them out on a baking sheet, sprinkle them with a mixture of icing sugar & cinnamon, and bake at 200 (ish) for 30 mins... you then have to flip them and bake again, and repeat this whole procedure, totaling 2 hours of baking, so it's only good if you have kitchen stuff to do in the meantime, but they're so delicious!
Apple pie looks delish! I've also been meaning to go apple picking for a long time now and was really hoping this would be the year - unfortunately, the rains have started here in the Northwest, so chances are it won't happen. However, I am determined to make my first apple pie this autumn! :)
Midnight Mama, thank you! I was really happy with how it turned out. My boyfriend didn't complain either. :) Those apple chips sound great! Perhaps I will give it a shot this weekend. I unfortunately don't have a mandolin slicer (I know) but this may be just the excuse to go buy one.
Thanks, Tabitha! You should definitely go next fall. In the meanime, good luck with your apple pie! Let me know if you need a recipe.. hehe.
