Are you dressing up for Halloween?

Halloween isn't really one of my favorite holidays.  I could honestly take it or leave it.  I don't consider myself crafty or creative enough to make my own costume and generally don't dress up.  My place of employment, however, loves Halloween.  Almost everyone dresses up and there are fun activities planned for every hour of the day.  No one is expected to get any sort of actual work done.  Generally, each department comes up with a theme.  People dress up and the different work areas are decorated to go along with the theme.  My department, Engineering, decided to do "old school video game characters".  Think Mario Brothers and Pac-Man.  My boyfriend and I decided to go as Goombas.  It's the little brown mushroom type thing that Mario likes to stomp on.  If you aren't familiar, see the picture below... So.  Yeah.  I'm dressing up as that.  No hot, sexy halloween costume for me.  I'm going as an very angry-looking brown mushroom.  With fangs.  Not sure how I got talked into this but there's no turning back now.

We found an awesome tutorial online: Mario Brothers Goomba Costume Tutorial, and got started this weekend.  We had a heck of a time finding all of the materials and I almost gave up entirely, but we eventually prevailed and it's coming along nicely so far.

This is my first time ever making my own costume.  I hope it all turns out well in the end.  I'll be pretty sad if it doesn't, after all this effort.  I will be using a sewing machine for the first time on Tuesday night.  Please wish me luck.  I think I'm going to need it.

What are you dressing up as for Halloween?  Do you go all out and make your own costumes?  Does your place of employment celebrate the holiday?

Thanks for the link. Good luck with your costume! I hope you post pics - I'd love to see how your Goombas turn out. If you have questions, feel free to email and I'll do my best to help.

As for wearing costumes to work, I'm a SAHM but my son's school won't let the kids wear their costumes this year. We're both a little disappointed because he really wanted to show his costume to his friends.

Happy Halloween!

I'm dressing up as a 7 1/2 month pregnant woman...because nothing else fits :-)

Hi, Rachel! I am so glad you stopped by and left a comment. I was really so impressed with how great your costume came out, and so was my boyfriend. That really is such a shame your son can't show it off at school.

We have all the pieces ready to go and are going to sew the pieces together tonight. I am sure they won't come out nearly as well as yours did but if they are decent I will be sure to post a pic.

Thanks again for the great tutorial and Happy Halloween!

Sounds good, Christina. You do make an adorable 7 1/2 month pregnant woman. :)

I was going to get dressed up this year, but I seem to have come down with a nasty cold so it looks like we might not be going anywhere!

I love the costume idea. Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Hi, Danielle. So sorry to hear you are sick. I hope you feel better soon!

I am excited to show you guys the final version. Almost done!
